英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. SPECIFIC AIMS The general aim of the proposed project is to investigate the effect of systemic inflammation on neural reactivity related to social pain processes, specific emotional stimuli, and depressive symptoms. Specific Aim #1: To assess whether experimentally induced systemic inflammation leads to higher levels of social distress in response to an episode of social rejection as well as later depressive symptoms. Specific Aim #2: To assess whether experimentally induced systemic inflammation leads to greater activity in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC), a neural region involved in social pain processing, in response to an episode of social rejection. Specific Aim #3: To assess whether, for individuals exposed to endotoxin, greater dACC activity during the social rejection episode mediates the relationship between increased proinflammatory cytokine activity and greater depressive symptoms.
