PHARMACOGENETIC EVALUATION OF ANTI-HYPERTENSIVE RESPONSE (PEAR)

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine the association of a large number of genes with responses to diuretics and beta-blockers in hypertensive patients. It will test the hypothesis that 1) polymorphisms in proposed candidate genes are important determinants of the inter-patient variance in antihypertensive and adverse response to B-blockers and thiazide diuretics; and 2) there are a substantial number of new genes that are important determinants of the interpatient variance in antihypertensive and adverse responses to B-blockers and thiazide diuretics.
