英文摘要
The proposed research and tools instrument grant aims at the acquisition of basic equipment essential for our research tasks relating to the development of processes for decontamination, treatment and value-addition of various types of wastewaters and wastewater sludges of industrial and municipal origin. The proposed equipment is an essential tool to perform numerous screening studies which will eventually lead to bench scale and field application. The proposed equipment will serve the participating researchers in following ways: a) controlled environmental chambers for microbial growth screening studies for production of different value-added products; b) preparation of different microbial, such as bacterial, yeast and fungal inocula for bench scale fermenters; c) biodegradation studies of different toxic organic compounds using pure and/or mixed microbial consortia; d) strain maintenance and fluorescence studies of phytoplanktons; e) shake flask carbon reduction studies for greenhouse gas analysis and; f) preparation of seed inoculum for wastewater treatment reactors. The proposed refrigerated incubator-shaker system will be installed in the environmental biotechnology laboratory of INRS-ETE. The equipment will be made available to the collaborating researchers and other researchers of the center on priority and reservation basis. The operation and maintenance costs will be covered from the operational budget of INRS-ETE and various governmental grants (NSERC, FQRNT, CFI) and industries.
