Ultrasound imaging is one of the most commonly the used imaging modalities for both medical imaging and the non-destructive evaluation of materials. Most instruments use arrays of individual transducers ( typically 128) to initially form and then collect the ultrasound waves. Equipment manufacturers, in their effort to provide affordable imaging devices, do not allow the use of those 128 elements simultaneously since that would require each element to be equipped with the appropriate electronics. In this proposal, we ask for an add-on module to our existing ultrasound imaging instrumentation, that will provide this capability. This will allow the implementation of new imaging techniques that will directly impact their research programs of four NSERC funded applicants that use ultrasound in their research.
