Perimeter is a Toronto based, development-stage, medical device company dedicated to developing in-surgery tissue assessment tools. They are looking to develop a 2nd generation Optical Tissue Imaging System (OTIS), a device based on optical coherence tomography (OCT). The new product would improve the image quality and speed of data acquisition and make it feasible for use in a operating room for breast cancer surgery to confirm the full removal of cancerous tissue from the patient. Our team at Ryerson University, with extensive experience in ultrasound and optics in the biomedical sciences, will work with Perimeter to develop a prototype Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) based system that has the capability of higher speed and sensitivity while at the same time suppressing motion artifacts.
