SAIT is requesting support from the NSERC CCI Applied Research Tools and Instruments program for the purchase of Soil Contamination Assessment Equipment for environmental technologies applied research. The proposed equipment consists of a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and an electromagnetic ground conductivity meter (EM meter), along with necessary accessories, gas and electrical installation. The GC-MS will be used in the analysis of contaminants in soil resulting from industrial activity. The main purpose to acquiring the EM equipment is for research projects related to environmental site characterization to delineate potential conductive or resistive soil contamination. The proposed research tools will be used throughout the course of soil remediation projects: to establish baseline concentrations at the start of projects, and repeatedly until the close of the research.
