Alberta-based Fluid Clarification Inc. has partnered with Finland's Sofi Filtrations to combine the strengths of Fluid Clarification's advanced fluid separation technology with the innovative Sofi filter to improve water treatment in the petroleum sector's industrial processes. Fluid Clarification approached SAIT Polytechnic to collaborate on a series of applied research projects that would move the company towards commercialization of the technology. The goal of the Engage project is to design and develop an advanced fluid separation pilot system employing Sofi filtration technology in order to process samples of produced and related waters from oil and gas and oil sands applications. The Environmental Technologies (ET) research group in Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) was launched at SAIT in 2008 to focus on clean energy technology solutions to reduce the impact of industrial and human activity on air, soil and water. Through the proposed project, the SAIT team will gain new knowledge of clean technology solutions for sustainable water management.
