Environmental Technologies Development Corporation (ETDC) is a private company based in Mississauga, Ontario which fosters the research and development of environmental technologies for water treatment (www.etdc.org). ETDC has developed approaches to remove arsenic from water generated as a by-product of mining activities. There are, however, no effective small-scale units on the market that can provide safe drinking water for use on the scale of households or small communities. The Arsenic Filter System (AFS) will provide the company with an innovative, novel technology for treating water that contains low concentrations of arsenic on household scales.
