Vehicle electrification in the form of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in HEVs (PHEVs), extended-range electric vehicles (ER-EVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is the future for road transportation. Knowledge about drive cycles, which represents in part a vehicle's trip speed and acceleration profile, is essential to, and pervasive throughout, vehicle research. HEV drive cycles present unique challenges, for example, to fuel consumption certification. PHEVs and ER-EVs simply complicate certification even further.
