Since 2008, Ontario Drive & Gear (ODG) Limited has developed extreme-terrain capable rovers, primarily for use by the Canadian Space Agency and NASA. ODG has since developed a new line of rovers with a focus on terrestrial applications such as those within the military, academia, agriculture and mining sectors. ODG's robotic vehicles can withstand hostile environments such as the ones present on the Lunar/Martian surface. These robotic vehicle currently lacks a high-level software framework to integrate its advanced hardware platform with state-of-the-art guidance, control, and navigation techniques, and it also lacks an advanced high-fidelity 3D simulation framework to simulate the actual robotic vehicle in its typical environments. This research project seeks to design both the high-level software framework and the high-fidelity robotic simulation framework for ODG's robotic vehicles based on a novel software framework development technique. This will make ODG an international leader in this technological area, bring more business to the Canadian economy, and contribute innovative research to the academic community.
