Recently, smart materials have been utilized more and more extensively in space applications due to their excellent properties such as fast response, easy miniaturization and high controllability. The past two decades have seen a rapid increase in the use of smart materials in actuator design. However, the inherent nonlinearity of smart materials hinders the scope of the application and presents an interesting control challenge.
