Testing of specialty optical fiber for visible tilted fiber Bragg grating applications

Fiber Bragg gratings have long been a central component in many telecommunications and sensing applications. One variant of these devices is the tilted fiber Bragg grating, which will reflect light out of the side of optical fiber. This is useful as the reflected light can be used to excite a coating on the fiber that may be sensitive to the surrounding environment. In this study we will examine the efficiency of the reflection for several specialty optical fibers to determine which properties are important for maximize efficiency.
