Motion capture, or "MoCap" for short, refers to the process of recording movements of one or more persons or objects. It has served as an essential technology to many industries, including entertainment (gaming and filmmaking), movement science (human factors and kinetics), virtual reality (training and simulations), and health (diagnostics and rehabilitation). In gaming and filmmaking, for example, it is used to record actions of human actors or athletes, and using that information to animate digital character models in 3D computer animation. However, if MoCap devices can truly become wearable and ambulatory, it can liberate a wealth of information that could have a substantial impact on our research involving everyday life. Our bodies, as well as our behaviour can generate a wealth of data for wearable sensors such miniature inertial sensors to collect and analyze.
