One of the early successes of autonomous robotics has been in cleaning and vacuuming applications. Current robotic cleaners typically target the domestic market, and thus provide solutions that are relatively low-cost, but as a result, have low cleaning throughput. Avidbots, based in Waterloo Region, is building a sophisticated and powerful cleaning robot for commercial applications. In contrast to existing solutions, Avidbot robots are equipped with state-of-the-art laser sensing, enabling a robot to localize itself within a map of the environment. This means that efficient cleaning paths can be planned, and cleaning times can be greatly reduced.
