Robotics is in the midst of rapid growth, fueled by the prospect of robots operating*in human-centric environments that are unstructured and uncertain. However, when *robots operate in uncertain environments, safety and performance become critical *issues. Robots must be able to react to unexpected changes in real-time, safely re-*planning their motion. Moreover, for robots to be useful, they should interact with*human users, receiving complex task descriptions, and asking for help when they *encounter a problem. The chairholder will address these challenges by creating *control and coordination algorithms that enable robots to safely and efficiently *perform tasks in real-world environments.*
