The main objective of this project is to investigate the potential of activated birch tree biomass as a biofilter to
remove Lactobacillus from the lactose by-product stream during dairy production. This sugar supplies a
potentially valuable feedstock for fermentations. A secondary objective is to examine the potential use of the
entrapped Lactobacillus in the further fermentation of milk.
