英文摘要
Production of oil from conventional reservoir is becoming progressively difficult and unconventional oil and
gas resources (e.g. oil sand and heavy oil) are forming of the future of oil and gas industry, while bringing
ever-newer challenges. One of the most important of these challenges is asphaltene precipitation and formation
of stable water-in-oil emulsions. There is a high content of asphaltenes in oil, particularly in unconventional
hydrocarbons; therefore, the asphaltene precipitation and the emulsion formation are not evitable. Asphaltene
particles deposit on the surface of droplets and stabilize the emulsion, making the separation of water and oil
very difficult. In a close collaboration with Schlumberger DBR Technology Center (DBR) as a pioneering
active R&D center in the field of oil and gas industry, and relying on an engineering approach, we will develop
a model to predict the conditions of emulsion stabilization by asphaltenes to increase the efficiency of the
separation process.
