Microwave resonator based sensors have inherent characteristics that allow contact-less sensing, provide design flexibility and speed associated with label free detection. Planar microstrip resonator based sensors demonstrate additional advantages of design simplicity and ease of implementation. They are good candidates for liquid sensing and monitoring the complex permittivity of substances. The importance of such non-contact microwave sensing becomes more pronounced for harsh environments such as oil sands that are prone to deposition and fouling. Here, in this work, we will work on development of non-contact microwave sensors for water cut analysis in oil sands applications.
