Walmart Canada at the most is in the course of allocating budget among 370 stores for year 2016 as its fiscal year ends at the end of January. Walmart tries to align the budget allocation with workforce capacity and target services per store, month, and department, which Walmart calls "unit." This requires labor standards in various retail areas consistent with customer experiences. In the past the budget allocation was not strategically aligned with the requirements, leading to less than optimal performance. Therefore, we propose to perform statistical analysis of the performance measured in dollars per unit (store, month, and department) and to developed stylized models to assess the consistency between the performance and allocated wages per unit. Once such analysis and model development are completed, our team and Walmart Canada will review the accuracy of research outcomes for further collaboration. This can potentially lead to the development of quantitative models that can optimally adjust budget allocation among units to improve the performance of the entire retail chain of Walmart Canada.
