Mississauga Seating Systems develops and manufactures seating systems, seat structure and mechanism solutions, and foam and trim products for the automotive industry. The product line includes reconfigurableseat solutions, in-vehicle stowable seats, lightweight seat solutions, slim seating, and safety systems integration, and specialty mechanisms.
The company is based in Mississauga, Canada with a production plant in Odzaci, Serbia. Magna Seating Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Magna International Inc. The production system in the Mississauga plan consists of two highly automated production lines with expensive robots, and produces dozens of product types in a very flexible manner.
However, the large number of product types poses a challenge in achieving the maximum throughput due to the variability in processing times of multiple product types. Therefore, the main objective of the proposed research project is to develop optimization models by which Mississauga Seating Systems can supply the multiple product types into the line so as to the aggregate idle times of expensive equipment can be minimized.
