As of 2014, cyber crime costs global economy more than 400 billion USD a year. The crimes are numerous, ranging from theft of intellectual property, to theft of financial assets, to market manipulation.
This study proposes to develop a novel, fast and scalable technique for speeding up detection of cyber crime in software systems. Such technique would expedite detection of cyber threats, reducing cost of detection and minimizing the risk of damage by the perpetrator.
Though the relevance of this problem for any industry dealing with sensitive data or critical services (Financial, Legal, Health Care, Engineering, Technological, etc.), no solution currently exists that can tackle the volume and velocity of data needed to be processed by eSentire.
Existing techniques will be evaluated and new approaches will be developed, having as an ultimate goal to combine these into a novel solution that tackles this problem. The final system will be a software solution that will be integrated into eSentire security software stack. This research will bolster the marketability of eSentire, ensuring that this Canadian company is a strong contender in the rapidly growing industry of cybersecurity. The research will also reduce the risk of damage to the eSentire clients, reducing losses to the Canadian economy.
