Next generation of super resolution imaging techniques

Imaging is one of the most basic and fundamental tools to study our environment, from astronomy to biological cell analysis. While the resolution limit was originally considered as diffraction limit (Abbe), it is well known that sub-diffraction imaging is now possible. In practice, however, the super-resolution techniques use complex approaches to be able to super-resolved samples in the presence of real world condition such as turbulence, polarization effects, imperfect optical components, speckles, and diffraction which make them limited. Although the advent of various theoretical and laboratory techniques has improved, there is a growing need for a practical and robust simulation and optimisation tools to address future super-resolution imaging requirements. The proposed research program presents an innovative approach that will be developed and used in the field of microscopy for the next generation of super resolution imaging systems. This proposal also offers a unique opportunity to develop new expertise and train highly qualified personal in lens design in Canada.
