Maritime Innovation Limited has developed a proprietary technology for the microbial inoculation of spruce tree seedlings that provide insect and disease tolerance, specifically to spruce budworms. The formulation currently produced by Maritime Innovation Limited is a liquid. Maritime Innovation will collaborate with the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick's Biorefinery Technology Scale-up Centre (CCNB-BTSC) to produce a concentrated liquid or dry powder resulting in a commercial product with extended shelf-life, less volume for storage, and having more flexibility with respect to the dose used for inoculation. This investment will sustain diverse forests, a sustainable wood supply for the forest industry, and improve tree tolerance to various insects and fungal pest leading to a reduction in pesticide usage.
