Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME) has designed and built an an unmanned helicopter, the "Renegade", which carries a state-of-the-art 3D laser imaging instrument. Current applications of the system include precision agriculture, forestry, and infrastructure mapping. The company would like to expand the application of the system to the open pit mining industry. The system is well suited for operations in open pits because it is compact and highly maneuverable and can get in close contact to rock walls.
