英文摘要
Emergent Waste Solutions is a BC owned and operated company developing a novel economical thermolysis technology (ATS) to produce value-added chemicals (e.g., biochar) from biomass waste. The produced biochar material has been used for soil amendment and water or air treatment applications so far. Currently, EWS is commercializing their ATS technology to produce biochar at large scale (500-2000 kg h-1); new potential market is sought in high-end adsorption-specific applications based on electrostatic forces for energy storage and wastewater treatment purposes. EWS' biochar offers desirable potential for the electrostatic adsorption processes based on its cost-effectiveness comparing to competitive carbon-based material with costly and complicated preparation methods (e.g., carbon nanotubes). Yet, the major drawbacks of biochar samples to be used for electrostatic adsorption applications are low surface area and poor electrical conductivity.
