Local power generational and storage play a key part in the functioning of a residential nanogrid. Residentialnanogrids need to run independent and not rely on power from the local utility. Having a device thathomeowners can purchase that would allow them to manage the power generated from solar panels, the storingof the power in batteries, and the consumption from loads to minimize their reliance on the local utility,especially around peak usage, when the cost of power is more expensive. The proposed research project bringstogether researchers from SFU and Rainforest Automation with the goal of developing computational methodsto optimize the power consumption of loads given limited resources provided from local solar powergeneration and battery storage. Outcomes from this project will be used to enhance Rainforest's existing set ofproducts as well as create a new product line.
