The Environmental Technologies (ET) applied research group at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) was approached by STS Tracer Services Ltd. (STS Tracer) to assist in the development of alternative analytical on-site methods for the analysis of tracers, which are oil or water-soluble fluid additives used to evaluate the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing. This project aims to significantly reduce operational downtime and required capital investment for tracers and thus has a potential for significant impact across the oil and gas sector.
