Innovative systems for smart multimodal optoelectronic sensors integration

This program will develop new ground breaking approaches to provide neuroscience research with novel smart wireless experimental tools. In particular, this research will contribute to sought new innovative methods to increase systems intelligence and functionality while pushing miniaturization to unprecedented level by leveraging new advances in medical instrumentation, material science and microelectronics to develop chip-scale and minimally-invasive wireless microsystems working on small batteries or using energy harvester, and hence, greatly improving autonomy while decreasing size. These microsystems focus on sensing and processing biomedical signals locally, and in real-time, while actuating biological microstructures, and providing ultra-low-power wireless connectivity from inside living tissues. Thanks to a multidisciplinary approach, the envisioned platforms will combine several micro- and nano-fabricated components, such as microelectronic circuits, optical fibers, and optics (lenses, gratings, etc.), to address highly complex biological structures at the micro- and nanoscale.
