A biointerface is an interface between a cell, tissue, or biomaterial with another tissue; biointerfaces are central to natural science and biomedical engineering, as well as biomaterials research. This research involves the multidisciplinary study of knee joint and ocular biomaterial lubrication (e.g. articular cartilage, knee implant biomaterials, contact lenses). This interdisciplinary work is novel due to the combination of complementary and sophisticated biomedical engineering techniques. Completion of this work will contribute to the understanding of knee joint and eye lubrication, and contribute to the development of new biomaterials that may help those that suffer from osteoarthritis and dry eye.
