Kraken Robotics Inc., is a recognized as world leading innovators of Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS), which**dramatically improves seabed surveys. One persistent challenge, which Kraken Robotics aims at resolving, is a**reliable, cost effective fashion by which they can reduce their dependence on information obtained from the**Global Positioning System (GPS). This project aims at developing Canada's capabilities for quantum-enhanced**non-GPS inertial navigational sensors that offer superior positional precision compared to existing platforms.**This can be a stepping stone for being able to upgrade fiber-optic gyroscopes with additions which can reduce**positional error compared to their best-achievable performance today, while being low-cost, portable, and**lightweight. This project will develop the specifications and provisional design bounds of quantum-enhanced**positional sensors to increase the accuracy of optical techniques for navigation and location determination. The**expected outcomes are design bounds given the technology capabilities within U of T, for improved positional**sensors having reduced shot noise based on commercially-viable integrated photonic quantum technology.
