Cancer remains the leading cause of death in Canada, with incidence rates increasing year after year. As such, early screening and detection of cancer becomes paramount, particularly given the high survival rates after diagnosis of cancers such as prostate cancer and melanoma.*Dr. Wong is developing integrative medical imaging systems that combine hardware-software co-design using a systems perspective for aiding doctors in making well-informed clinical decisions. Working with clinical institutions, this translational research will enable early detection and localization of cancer, and enable minimally-invasive focal therapies for improving patient recovery times and reducing patient discomfort.
