Cancer and heart disease are the two leading causes of death in Canada, with incidence rates increasing year after year. Early screening and detection is paramount, particularly given significantly increased survival rates and improved quality of life when detected early. Dr. Wong is developing several integrative medical imaging systems that combine hardware-software co-design using a systems perspective for aiding doctors in making fast, well-informed clinical decisions and treatment planning. Working with clinical institutions, this translational research will enable early detection of cancer and heart disease, and enable early, minimally-invasive treatment for improving patient recovery times and quality of life.
