Experiment with a new wood vinegar obtained from pyrolysis of agricultural residues for weed control in crop cultures

Wood vinegar is the product of agricultural or forest residues transformed by pyrolysis. Titan Carbon will be producing the large amounts needed to develop their market. Wood vinegar is a new green renewable liquid product that degrades quite fast with characteristics that makes it interesting for weed control. It contains acetic acid and other chemicals. Plants do not like it at high concentrations, but these chemicals enhance plant growth at low concentrations. Two tests will be conducted at the Agrinova site. The first one involves seeds in controlled chambers with applications at different germination stages. The second one will be performed in greenhouse with plants of different maturity stages. Various wood vinegar concentrations and addition frequency, soil types and plant maturity stages will be tested. The results will help Titan Carbon's decision-making process about inserting more weed control discoveries into market development. It will also be of importance for Canadian people and business in their switch toward more environmentally friendly plant production.
