The mission of the CREATION-3D Industrial Research Chair is to:Explore fundamental problems in 3D computer vision and propose innovative solutions of strategic interest to the industrial partner.The fulfillment of this mission involves achieving five key objectives:1- conduct advanced fundamental and applied research three main areas: i) billion vs microns, ii) & visualization interfaces, and iii) light-surface interaction;2 - disseminate research findings in leading scientific journals and conferences;3- train highly qualified personnel in computer vision and its related fields;4- promote the research and transfer technology to the user domaine;5- promote the activities of the Chair and increase its visibility within the machine vision community and the public.More specifically, the research program first looks to the types of surface representation that can process a very large number of points (several hundred million) collected from large objects at very fine resolution (100 microns). Second, the research focuses on new ways to interact with 3D sensors and inspection software, including the exploitation of augmented reality technologies. Finally, the light-surface interaction will be investigated in order to add information on the eflectance and surface roughness to the macroscopic data on their geometry.
