Preventing environmental pollution and reporting environmental impact is an important task for manufacturing facilities. ERA environmental (ERA) provides software solutions to cope with the challenges that are associated with quantifying the environmental impact and simplifying manufacturing facilities' regulatory reporting. The software solutions from ERA have been widely leveraged by companies globally. Due to the success of ERA's software solution, a larger number and more diversified companies start to become ERA's clients, leading the software system to face the challenges of ever higher quality and efficiency. Not just for ERA, the quality and efficiency of ultra-large-scale systems have been an emerging and an extremely important topic in software engineering research and practice. In order to improve quality and efficiency of ERA's systems, we plan to develop a toolset, consisting of monitoring infrastructures, supporting infrastructure, analysis models, evaluational metrics and tools validated through rigorous empirical studies that are specifically designed to improve the quality and efficiency of ERA's systems. The outcomes of this work will advance the state-of-the-art in quality and efficiency assurance activities in software engineering for large software systems and improve both the product and the engineering methodology in ERA.
