Ultrasonic testing (UT) has been used for a number of years in the inspection of safety-critical components. The research community is now focusing on (1) transforming time-consuming inspection with faster and more efficient methods, (2) inspecting complex parts due to intricate geometries or anisotropic material properties and (3) using advanced modelling tools as well as artificial intelligence to help inspectors in their decisions. Olympus NDT will collaborate with École de technologie supérieure (ETS) on a research program on advanced ultrasound and signal processing including projects on corrosion sizing of partially accessible structures, high temperature ultrasonic transduction, amplitude independent imaging and characterization of adhesive bond strength.
