Development of a Real-Time Edge AI Platform for SmartCone's vision and data streaming-based IoT applications

The objective of this proposal is to prototype a software development environment for SCTI's Artificial Intelligence-based applications in the Internet of Things domain: the Real-Time Edge AI Platform. What is novel about this Platform is that it will help create real-time applications with local intelligence (Edge AI), which are completely autonomous and do not require connectivity with a Cloud server. In order to guide and validate the design of the Platform, we are also prototyping 3 Applications which use the Platform during its different stages of completion: "Intelligent Safety of Vulnerable Road Users", "Intelligent Safety for work sites", and "Situational Awareness & Understanding". Our approach to applied research is to combine Agile software development with the "Design Science Research in Information Systems" methodology, where the research outcome is an artifact (the Real-Time Edge AI Platform and the 3 Applications).
