The overall goal of the proposed collaborative project is to develop cooperation between Canada and Germany in the field of surface engineering for green hydrogen economy. Emphasis is placed on the development of production processes and materials for sustainable hydrogen generation/separation using fuel cell systems. The collaboration will benefit from the synergy of expertise in the area of plasma-based synthesis technologies, materials engineering, testing methods, and hydrogen-related life cycle analysis.The collaboration will enhance access to highly complementary expertise and equipment in surface engineering, while contributing to training of future scientists and engineers through new and novel educational offerings. In addition, coordinated discussions, seminars and outreach will help to build an international network involving academia, government institutions and industry, the latter ones particularly in the aviation, automotive, energy and manufacturing sectors.
