ASA Energy Consulting Ltd. is based in Vancouver BC, operating as an independent, full-service energyconsulting, engineering, and project development firm. ASA Energy has noticed that one of the main barriers toenergy efficiency programs is the lack of real benchmarking methodology as current benchmarking industrialsystems and processes rely on a comparison of performance metrics, which is limited. In collaboration, ASAEnergy Consulting Ltd. and Lambton College successfully completed the first phase of the project that focusedon the initial development of an accurate, repeatable, comparable, and time-independent, customer-orientedbenchmarking system and standards, improving the quality of Energy Performance Indicators (EnPI) currentlyused by ISO 50001 and ISO 50006.Through this proposed project, ASA Energy and Lambton College are planning to expand the system andextend its tool capability, improving upon the cloud-based systems, and systems in place for validating data. This will include the development of an IoT sensor platform with embedded computing, interfacing andcommunications. The project will also develop analytics tool suit to demonstrate the viability of the IoT sensorintegration within an energy management information system. The success of this project will result in the development of novel technology that will allow ASA Energy toexpand their energy management services to its existing and new customers by providing a cloud-basedplatform for energy performance benchmarking and energy savings verification. This will also increase ASA'scompetitive advantage and market share as industrial and commercial facilities are increasingly seekingstreamlined strategic energy management initiatives while maintaining data security. It is expected that bycommercializing the outcomes of this project that new revenue streams will be created by at least $200,000yearly over five years. Furthermore, the success of the project will lead to the creation of 10 direct positions atASA Energy as well as contribute to the creation of thousands of indirect jobs in Canada.
