The world's only source of true ancestral probiotic strains, CanBiocin is widely recognized as a leader inspecies-specific animal and livestock probiotic development. Based in Edmonton, CanBiocin maximizes thebeneficial impact of species-specific probiotics by careful combination with prebiotic ingredients to focus onpost-biotic metabolite production to support animal health and wellness.CanBiocin wants the best health for pets and livestock that is backed by science, however, one size does not fitall when it comes to commercial fermentation and scale up as individual species-specific probiotics are diverseand have their own unique characteristics. Horses are classified as a companion animal in CanBiocin's contextand a species-specific probiotic is of immediate interest for commercial customers. To be commercially viable, the Ligilactobacillus equi (L.equi) needs further optimization of the fermentation and downstream process toimprove the product yield and purity. In collaboration, CanBiocin and Lambton College will focus ondetermining best practices that can translate into commercial-scale production and harvest of L.equi as aspecies-specific probiotic for use in supporting animal health and wellness in companion as well asperformance horses. The success of this collaborative project will allow CanBiocin to speed up their commercialization of this newproduct as there is market demand with commercial customers confirmed and awaiting delivery of thisspecialized ingredient to support microbiome health. It is anticipated that CanBiocin's operation will expand toaccommodate the additional product blending and packaging, thus leading to an additional 4 full-timepositions. Furthermore, these positions will be retained during product launch to support further productdevelopment and new species-specific strain identification and classification.
