Developing geospatial, visual AI for analyzing drone imagery in construction and mining sites

One of the significant challenges of integrating drones in civil applications is related to data: lack of standards for data collection, complexity of data analysis for converting the overwhelming volume of raw data to concise interpretable information, as well as long delays before the data-driven information can be integrated to the process of decision making. Tackling these challenges is the main objective of this project. Centre de géomatique du Québec (CGQ) will assist ARA and Chaac to develop an automated platform for processing and analyzing field data using drone technology elevated by the power of artificial intelligence (AI). This platform, particularly, targets the construction and mining sectors for earthwork progress monitoring, predictive inventory analysis, and site safety assessment. This solution will enable ARA and Chaac to improve their leading expertise in the field of aerial data analytics, to offer a unique technology in the domains of construction and mining, and to meet the requirements of a large variety of drone-mapping processes and products.
