Developing an airborne multi-sensor system for pipeline right-of-way management

In the context of an Engage grant, Center de geomatique du Quebec (CGQ) collaborated with FlyScan Systems Inc. They developed an aerial photogrammetric solution, which was evaluated highly valuable to augment the capacity of FlyScan's leak-detection system (LDS) by mapping and monitoring pipelines' right of way. The main objective of the Engage Plus project is to improve this system by integrating a three-dimensional (3D) lidar and a stereo rig of high-frequency cameras. The 3D lidar will allow fast and computationally-efficient creation of topographic data. The stereo cameras will be used for real-time threat detection. Completing this project will enable FlyScan to develop a unique, airborne multi-sensor system for pipeline monitoring and right-of-way management. Therefore, they will be able to gain a competitive edge and better respond to the requirements of their clients in the pipeline industry, not only in Canada but also internationally.
