Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner technologies are widely used in health, industries, and social applications to provide accurate images of the internals of different objects. They are integrated with 2D and 3D image processing to analyze the series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the target object and reconstruction of cross-sectional images, which are used to support diagnosis, analysis, monitoring, and integrity controls.This international collaborative research project aims to design a smart scan integrated research and test facility and utilize for the development of AI and image processing algorithms to support number of applications. The research collaboration will include investigation of AI and image processing algorithms to analyze images from CT scans and integrate them with other images from Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, which will provide comprehensive assessment of metabolic or biochemical functions in human body and will assess radioactivity level and localization.The research facility will be used to support analysis and integrity management of other physical systems such as energy technologies, battery storage systems, supercapacitor systems, flywheel systems, semiconductors and electronics, transportation, and aviation systems. One main application is to support maintenance and inspection activities in nuclear power plants, and Small Modular Reactors (SMR) including installations, decommissioning activities by testing the degradation of materials and radioactivity impacts in equipment, storages, infrastructures, and containers. The collaborative research will include the study and design of a mobile system in a container that can be shipped to remote locations to support different industrial applications.
