Research on Irrigation custom and the order of villages

我研究了长野关地区被称为“大田原井”的灌溉习俗。长野关是灌溉高崎市许多稻田的运河。Otaharai是在干旱时向下游村庄分配灌溉水的习俗。下游的人们暂时破坏上游的堤坝，直到上游村庄的人们修复堤坝，才得到灌溉用水。长野关至少有四条分支运河实行大田原住民习俗。它是基于在严重干旱期间平均分配灌溉水的原则。上游村落与下游村落之间的关系是不一样的。有些是敌对的，有些是友好的。它们是由大量的水和历史细节造成的。

I researrched the irrigation custom called "Otaharai" in Naganozeki irrigation area. Naganozeki is the canal, irrigating many paddy fields in Takasaki city. Otaharai was the custom to distribute irrigation water to the lower reaches villages at the time of the drought. People of the lower reaches temporarily broke dams of the upper reaches, and got irrigation water until the dams repaired by people of the upper reaches village. Otaharai custom were being practiced in four branch canals of Naganozeki at least. It was based on the principle of equal distribution of irrigation water during the critical drought. Relations between the upper reaches villages and the lower reaches villages varied. Some were antagonistic and the others were friendly. They were caused by amounts of water and historical details.
