Development of program and teaching materials for cross-cultural understanding using works of visual novels

(1)研究：我们分析了一些有代表性的英语和汉语教科书和参考文献，发现它们对日语的文体特征的描述，如层次、性别标记、敬语形式等，都局限于一般的基线，完全忽略了故事漫画作品中说话人的策略用法。这很可能导致学习者在理解说话人的意图时产生常见的误解和困难。此外，我们还分析了年轻男女学生之间真实的自发对话，发现这些策略用法在真实对话中以及在故事漫画和小说作品中都可以看到。(2)教师指南的制作：我们根据故事漫画制作的一本教科书“通过故事漫画学习日本和日语1：今天的职业女性”中提供了每个任务和问题的答案和详细的理论背景解释。(3)成果发表：发表论文3篇，在日本、韩国、台湾3次学术会议上演讲。我们还编写了一份报告，其中包括我们在2005- 07年发表的主要论文、讲座讲义、(2)中提到的教材和教师指南。

(1) Research: We analyzed some representative textbooks and references in English and in Chinese and found that their descriptions of the stylistic features of Japanese such as levels, gender-markers and honorific forms are so limited to general baselines and totally ignore strategic usages by the speaker observed in works of story-manga. This may well have led the learners to their common misunderstanding and difficulties in interpreting the speaker's intention. Also, we analyzed real spontaneous conversations between young male and female students and found that the strategic usages are seen in real conversations as well as in works of story-manga and novels(2) Production of the guide for teachers: We provided the answers and detailed explanations about theoretical backgrounds for each task and question in one of the textbooks we had produced based on story-manga: "Learning Japan and Japanese through story-manga 1: Working Women Today".(3) Publications of the results: We published three papers, gave a lecture at three academic conferences in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. We also complied a report that includes major papers we published in 2005-7, handouts of the lecture, and teaching materials and the guide for teachers mentioned in (2).
