英文摘要
Natural products are compounds that are produced by living organisms. These chemicals regulate numerous aspects of cellular life including intra-species (quorum sensing) and inter-species (mutualism, parasitism, etc.) interactions. Furthermore, they are rich sources of toxic molecules that serve producing organisms in infection control (e.g. antibiotics), in capture of prey (e.g. venoms, poisons), and in protection from predators. Given their intrinsic bioactivity and numerous physiological effects, it is not surprising that, natural have served as a rich source of 'natural' medicines and pest control agents for millennia and more recently as drugs and agriculturally important agents and their precursors.
