The proposed project addresses the lubrication properties of recovered lube oils. The MemPore is an Ontario based company and has an innovative membrane filtration technique to recover clean lube oil by filtration. The company lacks understanding the lubrication properties of their recovered oils; this situation limits the marketability of their lube oils. To overcome this limitation, MemPore has teamed up with a chemical engineer Dr. Boxin Zhao's laboratory at the University of Waterloo. The proposed project targets development of tribological measurements and the characterization of the recovered clean oils to develop a better understanding of the lubrication properties of the recovered oils. It will generate new understanding of the recovered oils and help improve their marketability and may enable new products.
