The proposed research integrates fundamental research in mathematical modelling and applications, addressing mathematically rich and practically important problems. Its overall objective is to develop mathematical and computational models, theory and tools for the description and computational analysis of several large key classes of physical, biological, and engineering multiscale systems. It will be encompassing innovative real life applications of such systems and enriching their studies with prevalent and ubiquitous fundamentals of mathematical theory and numerical techniques. The development of such fundamentals will be carried out in close conjunction with other disciplines, including experimental, leading to a truly original, unique, and highest quality research. The choice of the requested infrastructure, consisting of the one-to-one server-visualization console model and backup data solution, is directly dictated by the research programs of PI and his collaborators. The equipment will be used for critical tasks in modelling multiscale systems, in particular a systematic analysis of environmentally-friendly complex materials and the development of advanced tools for the analysis of important classes of biological systems. The requested infrastructure will enable quick research progress on a series of other key related tasks, described in the proposal. Spanning the major thematic clusters of Wilfrid Laurier University's Strategic Research Plan, the proposed research will bring added synergies into the crucial areas of challenging and globally important interdisciplinary research, with mathematical modelling playing a primary role. It will also enhance HQP support, an institutional priority, facilitating Lauier's capacity to attract and train high caliber trainees on projects that require such a combination of computing and imaging resources as those specified in the current proposal. The requested infrastructure and the PI innovative interdisciplinary research program are essential to the continuous progress in making a significant impact on the development of mathematical and computational models for such areas as alternative and renewable energy, as well as bio- and sensing technologies, producing meaningful contributions to important sectors of the Canadian economy. Activities of the PI team will be coordinated via well-established strategies involving several facilitating formats managed by PI and his collaborators, which at Laurier include the Mathematical Modeling for New Technologies (MM) Laboratory and the Interdisciplinary Research Institute for Mathematical and Statistical Modelling in Scientific Discovery, Innovation and Sustainability (MS2Discovery). The requested infrastructure will accelerate further interactions between different Departments through MS2Discovery, as well as strengthen the established links with industrial companies, laboratories, and private sector. ********
