This work centers on two themes. The first involves exploration of the scope of chiral Lewis-base-catalyzed reactions of organotrichlorosilanes including carbonyl additions, imine addition, Michael addition, epoxide opening and pericyclic reactions. The second involves a detailed development of the potential for catalytic asymmetric aldol reactions which primarily concerns the diversity of enolate, aldehyde and chiral phosphoramide components. With this renewal award, the Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry Program is supporting the research of Dr. Scott E. Denmark of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois. Professor Denmark will focus his work on developing synthetic methodology using organotrichlorosilanes in asymmetric transformations under catalysis by chiral Lewis bases. The chemistry represents an important methodology for the formation of carbon-carbon bonds.
