项目摘要

本研究は、20世紀半ば（Mid-century）のイギリスにおける「生（life）」と「貨幣（money）」の言説を、批判的に、分析するということに、その目的はある。具体的には、教養小説の衰退に着目することで、20世紀半ばのイギリスの児童文学と「怒れる若者たち」および“angry young women”の文学作品に見うけられる生と貨幣の重視・重要性を浮上させ、それによって、従来の「英文学」研究における、児童文学、「怒れる若者たち」文学、“angry young women”文学、というジャンル分けとその意味を、リベラリズムの意義とともに、（再）考察することにある。当該年度（令和４年度）は、4年計画の中間（2年）の１年目にあたる。初年度の基礎的作業を踏まえ、より具体的なテクスト分析を、理論的成果を活かして行うことを主に計画していた。前年度（令和3年度）の成果に基づいて、具体的なテクスト分析を、とりわけ成長の欲動（衝動）という観点に注目し、より綿密に行なった。具体的には、次のようになる。生の変容に関連して、新たな理想的な生活空間の獲得のために、異なる環境へと移動した人々の実践と理論の変化をたどった。その際、単に、理想の追究・挫折としてではなく、政治・経済・哲学等における理想の変化、転化に注目した。また、想像力と成長の欲動の関係を探り、令和3年度に収集した生の概念を閉塞的にではなく、三者の文学作品理解の枠組みを大きく拡大・改変するものとして捉える可能性を探った。
